What patents does EMC Corp own, including patents owned by
Subsidiaries, buy-outs, and now purchaised Legato? Specifically, what
are the patent numbers. How you got the info would also be interesting. Is this the EMC to which you refer?
http://www.hostingtech.com/news/2003/3/27/St_Nitf_Fibre_channel_cable_Assignee_E_m0320212.3pa.htmlYes, the patent listed in that description does belong to EMC
Corporation, and that is the correct company. On the US patent office
website it is assigneed to EMC Corporation
http://patft.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-Parser?Sect1=PTO1&Sect2=HITOFF&d=PALL&p=1&u=/netahtml/srchnum.htm&r=1&f=G&l=50&s1=6534716.WKU.&OS=PN/6534716&RS=PN/6534716
Their website is http://www.emc.com, and legato's website is
www.legato.com, and emc owns data general too www.dg.comGreetings Okra:
First, I phoned EMC and spoke with a lady named Ruth who told me that
while the patents are public information, they did not give out the
information. I was already searching the Patent Office while talking
to her and she told me that's where I would find them all.

and, at the Patent Office site, you will see live links to each of the
583 claims so that you may review the claim on every one. I searched
the Patent Office database with an/emc to discover the list which
means "assignee name"/[company]

I then examined the Securities and Exchange Commission's Form 10-K for
EMC located at http://216.239.53.104/search?q=cache:OLKEyGF3rxMJ:www.emc.com/proxy/10k.pdf+EMC+Corporation+subsidiaries+buyouts&hl=en&ie=UTF-8

found in the US Patent database and here are those results, where
applicable (some produced no results) - it was also stated there "We
have been granted or own by assignment approximately 600 patents..."

SEARCH STRATEGY:
US Patent Office [internal asssignee search on company names]
EMC Corporation
EMC Corporation subsidiaries buyouts4,619,179 (Musical) drums - appears to be owned by some other
Legato.
In article http://www.cnet.com/investor/news/newsitem/0-9900-1028-21214480-0.html
legato sues with 5,799,141 and 6,308,283. 5,799,141 is asigned to
Qualix Group, Inc not legato... But legato must own it to sue. Is
there mention of this company in the 10-K for Legato. Implying that we
need to further cascade the patent number search through aquisition
company 10-K's? EMC aquires Legato which had aquired 'other
companies'?
Also, do you think we need to look at old 10-K's for the complete
picture? It's interesting that the drums popped up in the Legato search. I
sampled various links on various pages of the EMC to make sure those
were valid. What I saw was EMC.
I agree there certainly may be a trail back from companies that
aquired companies that acquired companies...not sure, though, how to
ascertain which patents stayed with the original creators and which
ones moved on to be made official assignee. EMC was not forthcoming
with information as I mentioned before.
In addition to examining other 10-Ks, how else would you like me to
proceed?
Best regards,
journalist-gaI think we can finish this excercise, If you examining the chain of
10-K to determine what companies have been purchaised by EMC, legato,
and other purchaises. Then at my leasure, I will plug then names them
into the patent search engine to form a complete list.
Also, in the previous answer you forgot "data general" which is a
big sorce if 312 patents.
Based on our complete knowledge at this point, the following query at
the patent website will produce this list:
AN/"data general" or AN/"EMC Corp" or AN/"Legato" or AN/"Symetrix" or
AN/"Terascape" or AN/"McData"
Are there any other companies based on the 10-K last few years that
should be added? Here are the names I saw in the EMC 10-K:
Terascape Software
Softworks Inc.
Luminate
FilePool N.V.
Data General
McData
Avalon Consulting
Digital Bitcasting
CrosStor Software
Symatrix
Aviion
Clariion
and I'll run through it again to be certain I didn't miss any. I'll
also make a call to their Investor Relations department and see if I
can acquire an updated list of their buy-outs and subsidairies. I
apologize for the Data General omission. I had that in another
browser and neglected to post it.
I'll go over the 10-Ks on the above companies (and any others I
locate) beginning in the morning. Should you have any more additional
instructions, let me know.
Best regards,
journalist-gaIs the Symetrix in your company list, actually symmetrix, symetrix, or
symatrix. All three are different companies, and symetrix has over 140
patents. The Symetrix in your list had one, and when you click on the
patent it says the assigneed is Symmetrix. So, which company was
listed in the 10-K?Symmetrix - I saw that today as I was reviewing the 10-K and I was
going to alert you to the correction. You're too quick for me. :)
We had grand thunderstorms here this morning and I've been on and off
the Internet so I may not be able to complete my research for you by
this evening but be assured I will have it by the end of the Friday's
business.
Best regards,
journalist-gaTo review and consolidate for you:
